Past Experience
LANL Strategic Computing Complex (SCC)
Department of Energy, Los Alamos National Laboratory
VEI, as prime A&E contractor, managed and designed multiple buildout projects at LANL’s Strategic Computing Complex (SCC). VEI designed the utility infrastructure necessary to support the growing need for supercomputing. Below is a list of some of the projects VEI designed for the High Performance Computing division at LANL.
- Exascale Project
- Physical Infrastructure Integration for Trinity

This facility houses the world's most complex computer, the first hybrid supercomputer and the first supercomputer to attain a sustained petaflop operations/second. The computer is housed in a specially designed 43,500SF computer room.
Special Operations Forces Apron & Taxiway, Cannon AFB
Curry County, New Mexico
SMA provided construction surveying services under a firm, fixed-price contract consisting of the construction of a C-130 Aircraft Parking Apron and Taxiway consisting of approximately 125,000 square yards of 16.5-inch concrete pavement. The project included, aircraft tie-downs, aircraft grounding points, site drainage, associated taxiway access, shoulders, pavement markings and lighting.
The project also included demolition and infrastructure relocation involving a potable water system consisting of a new water supply well and water loop approximately 21,000 linear feet, a primary power duct bank 10,000 linear feet, runway lighting controls, taxiway lighting and utilities. The project was split into seven (7) phases due to mission critical operations that were ongoing during construction. The project provided vitally needed aircraft parking in support of the mission at Cannon Air Force Base.
